FAIRFIELD — A baby boy was found dead in his father’s bed early Friday morning, and police are trying to find out what happened to the child.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Friday afternoon the child was 5½ months old.

Fairfield police were immediately called to the scene, along with state police, McCausland said. The name of the child and his father’s identity were not available.

State police are investigating, as is standard protocol for the death of any child age 3 or under, the state police spokesman said.

An autopsy will likely be conducted on the boy, McCausland said.
