Local politics

What has Mayor Jonathan LaBonte done during the past two years that you agree with? What has he done that you disagree with?

He is well organized and seems to see the big picture While not entirely his fault, the total valuation of the city declined during his first term which is not good and unprecedented, I believe.

What has the city council done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

They approved the building of the new ice arena which will help with the cities valuation problem that I’ve previously mentioned and provide much needed new customers for local business owners. The council I believe should not have passed the two school budgets that were ultimately defeated by voters. They would have saved the city the cost of two elections by doing so!

What has the city manager and the city staff done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

They have streamlined some things which is good, but the lack of more economic development is not.

What has the school committee done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

They do not have a real feel for the pulse of the city and i’ts taxpayers. Suggesting that we should pay more now, because we will be required to so by the state in two years illustrated that disconnect to those of us struggling with higher taxes now, due to state revenue sharing cuts

What is your solution for Auburn’s high school?

I think the school committee has finally agreed that waiting for State funding is the only real solution and I agree with that.

Any last words?

I feel that I am down to earth and relate well to the common citizen/taxpayer and will listen to them and strive for a cost effective and student-oriented school department that we can be proud of, and that other Maine communities will envy!
