LEWISTON — Maslah Hassan and Abdibaari Hersi registered a pair of a goals each, as Lewiston cruised by Messalonksee 6-1 in KVAC boys’ soccer action.

Abdi Shariff-Hassan, and Issak Hussein tallied the two remaining goals for the Blue Devils (11-1-1). Dylan Burton scored the lone goal for the Eagles (5-6-2), while keeper Jonah Webb made 13 saves in net.

Girls’ soccer

Yarmouth 4, Poland 1

POLAND — The Yarmouth girls’ varsity soccer team utilized four different scorers, as they rolled past Poland 4-1 in a WMC matchup.

Katie Clemmer, Abby Condon, Julia Primeau and Emma Torres all tallied a goal for the Clippers (7-3-3). Lindsay Theriault added the lone goal for the Knights (6-7), while keeper Erin Brewer made 10 saves.

USM 2, Framingham State 0

GORHAM — Junior Peyton Dostie and freshman Michaela Demers each scored a goal to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 2-0 win over the Framingham State University Rams in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday at Hannaford Field on Senior Day.

Middlebury 4, Bates 2

LEWISTON — The Bates College field hockey team didn’t make it easy for No. 4 nationally ranked Middlebury on Saturday, but the Panthers prevailed with a 4-2 victory at Campus Avenue Field. Middlebury’s win ended Bates’ winning streak at three games, and extended the Panthers’ streak to four.

Bowdoin 4, Connecticut 0

NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Bowdoin College field hockey team continued to roll, winning its ninth straight match in a 4-0 victory over Connecticut College.

Rachel Kennedy led the scoring with a pair of goals in Saturday’s win. Olivia King made it a three-goal differential at halftime as she and Kennedy broke in on a 2-on-1. Katie Riley added a second-half goal to round out the scoring for Bowdoin. Hannah Gartner made a pair of saves for Bowdoin.

Maine 5, Fairfield 1

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Maine field hockey offense exploded for five goals in the first half, as the team recorded an important 5-1 win over conference foe Fairfield, in Fairfield, Conn., Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Danielle Aviani led the team in points tallying two goals as the team improved to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in conference.

Simmons 1, Thomas 0

WATERVILLE — Thomas was blanked by Simmons College in a NAC field hockey contest Saturday morning. Senior goalkeeper Sofia Sourgiadakis saved five of the six shots faced in the losing effort. The Terriers fall to 5-8, 2-5 NAC on the season with the loss.

Colby 3, Hamilton 0

CLINTON, N.Y. —The Colby College field hockey team is in the New England Small College Athletic Conference playoffs for the first time since 2008 after a 3-0 road win at Hamilton College on Saturday.

Erin Maguire scored the first two goals of the game for the Mules, who improve to 7-4 overall and 4-4 in NESCAC play. The Mules, under third-year head coach Tina Cormier, are alone in fifth place in the league standings with just two league games to play.

JOHNSON, Vt. — University of Maine at Farmington senior Kayla Tuttle finished on three goals of her five shots on goal to literally finish off  Johnson State College in a 3-0 North Atlantic Conference women’s soccer victory, Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field.

St. Joseph’s 1, Simmons 0

BOSTON — Senior goalkeeper Jaci Lorenzen shattered the program’s single-game saves record with 28 stops and junior Danielle Daigle scored in the 108th minute to lift Saint Joseph’s past Simmons College, 1-0, in double-overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Husson 1, Thomas 0

WATERVILLE — Thomas was edged by Husson 1-0 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match Saturday afternoon. Kajsa Kaufeldt led the way for the Terriers with two shots on goal. The Terriers fall to 3-11, 1-6 NAC on the year with the loss.

Both teams continued to trade shots in the second stanza until the 70th minute, when Courtney Hill found the back of the net on a cross from Sydney Costa. Thomas would look for an answer, but could not get a quality shot on net to be the equalizer.

Roger Williams 1, UNE 0

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Roger Wiliams University sophomore Mariah Kaiser broke a scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 71st minute, as the Hawks held off the University of New England in the closing stages to take a 1-0 women’s soccer victory Saturday afternoon.

Bowdoin 2, Connecticut 1

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Molly Popolizio scored the game-winning goal with 26:09 remaining to lift the Bowdoin women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win at Connecticut College Saturday afternoon.

Bowdoin took the lead in the opening half when Becky Stoneman played a through-ball to Kiersten Turner in the box. Turner setted the pass, shook her defender and deposited her ninth goal of the season to make it 1-0 at 12:59 of the opening frame.

Bridget McCarthy made three saves over the first 70 minutes for Bowdoin. Casey Krause was not tested over the final 20. Natalie Signor made four saves for the Camels

Middlebury 1, Bates 0

LEWISTON — Senior Julia Favorito scored the game’s only goal in the 53rd minute as No. 14 Middlebury College women’s soccer defeated Bates College, 1-0, on Saturday at Russell Street Field.

On the scoring play, Middlebury’s Jamie Soroka fired a shot on net from 12 yards away which Bates senior goalkeeper Anabel Schmelz parried away. The ball remained loose in front of the net, eventually finding its way to Favorito who slotted the ball into the right side of the goal.

Western Connecticut 2, USM 1

GORHAM — Senior Ariana D’Aurio scored on a looping shot in the 71st minute to provide the visiting Colonials with a 2-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday afternoon in a women’s soccer match at Hannaford Field.

Junior Shannon Brozyna (Orrington, Maine/Bangor) knocked in the rebound of her own shot in the 59th minute to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.

The Colonials got the equalizer in the 64th minute as sophomore Kelsey Chacho played a through ball from the right side to junior Sarah Menta. Seven minutes later, D’Aurio got the ball on the left side, dribbled with a burst of speed past a couple of USM defenders and looped a shot over Cobb for her team-leading eighth goal.

CLINTON, N.Y. — The Colby College women’s soccer team received nine saves from Emily Brook and are suddenly in the hunt for a New England Small College Athletic Conference playoff spot after a 0-0 overtime tie with Hamilton College on Saturday.

JOHNSON, Vt. — University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Ibrahim Achekh found the back of the net just in time to lift the Beavers to a 1-0 North Atlantic Conference men’s soccer win over Johnson State College, Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field.

Achekh netted his goal in the 88th minute, converted a through ball pushed forward by Ryan Fairbanks (Lisbon Falls, ME). The goal was Achekh’s fourth of the season.

Thomas 4, Husson 0

WATERVILLE — Thomas won their second North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game in a row, defeating Husson 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Dakota Duplissie had a goal and an assist in the win. Thomas’ Kristian Pettersson recorded his first collegiate goal just before the opening period ended from a Kenny Cano feed in the box to give the home side a comfortable 3-0 lead going into halftime.

Bowdoin 2, Connecticut 1

NEW LONDON, Conn. — For the second straight game, Cedric Charlier netted the game-winning goal to lead the Bowdoin College men’s soccer team to a conference win – this time a 2-1 triumph at Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Jones put Bowdoin ahead with a goal in the 52nd minute, accepting a long cross from Hunter Miller. Connecticut College’s Zach Punt evened the score less than six minutes later, ripping a low shot inside the left post at 57:18.Charlier then found the net with 19:50 remaining in the game.

Middlebury 2, Bates 1

LEWISTON — Senior Tyler Grees scored in the 64th minute, but it was not enough to overcome two earlier goals from Middlebury College as Bates College men’s soccer lost 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Russell St. Field.

Roger Williams 1, UNE 0

BIDDEFORD — Senior Scott Boucher headed home a corner kick from junior Andre Brueckner in the 57th minute to give Roger Williams University a 1-0 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Western Connecticut 1, USM 0

DANBURY, Conn. — Freshman midfielder Vigan Pacuku scored the game-winning goal with 49 seconds remaining in regulation time to lift the Western Connecticut State University’s men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton 4, Colby 1

CLINTON, N.Y. — The Colby College men’s soccer team tied the game at 1-1 after allowing an early goal, but Hamilton College scored three times in the first half on the way to a 4-1 NESCAC win Saturday.

Grey Benjamin scored Colby’s lone goal at 12:05 of the first half to tie the game at 1-1. Andrew Woonton flicked a pass over the Hamilton defense and found Benjamin in front. He quickly put a shot past Continental keeper Harris Pollack.

Husson 19, Becker 18

Coast Guard 40, Maine Maritime 0

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Coast Guard shutout Maine Maritime 40-0 in a New England Football Conference game Saturday. The Bears improved to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the NEFC, while the Mariners dropped to 0-5 and 0-3 in conference play.

UMO 34, William and Mary 20

ORONO — The UMO football team got off to another fast start as it scored 24 unanswered first half points en route to a 34-20 victory over visiting William and Mary on homecoming weekend. The win moves Maine to 6-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in CAA play.

Marcus Wasilewski was efficient in the win, completing his first 12 passes before finishing 16-for-22 with 192-yards and a pair of touchdowns. The total yards pushed Wasilewski over the 4,000-yard passing mark for his career. The senior quarterback also rushed 14 times for 71 yards in the win. Classmate Rickey Stevens returned from injury and rushed 24 times for a game-high 99-yards and a touchdown.

Trinity 40, Bowdoin 21

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College football team totaled 302 rushing yards on its way to a 40-21 win over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field.

The Bantams (5-0) extend the nation’s longest home-field winning streak to 50 games. Bowdoin (2-3) sees its two-game winning streak come to an end.

Colby 37, Hamilton 18

CLINTON, N.Y. — CT Harris had an amazing four sacks on the day and Justin Ciero had another big day against Hamilton College as the Colby College football team took a 37-18 win on Saturday at Steuben Field.

Colby also had other standouts on offense. Luke Duncklee broke a school record for receptions in a game with 12 for 117 yards and added four rushes for 41 yards. David Lane (1972) and Connor Walsh (2010) had the old single-game record of 11 catches.
