Fortier Chapter to donate banner

LEWISTON — Members of Royal Arcanum, Dr. Paul J. Fortier Chapter 52 (formerly ACA) have decided to surrender their “Association Canado-Americaine” banner to the Franco-American Collection at L/A College-USM.

The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. All are welcome.

The next monthly meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Lewiston Memorial Armory, 195 Central Ave. Social hour with refreshments will follow business.

The entrance is on the right, near Vale Street. New member are welcome. For more information, call council Regent Dolores Poirier at 782-8109.

Children’s writer to talk at Bates

LEWISTON —  Scott Nash, a writer, designer and illustrator acclaimed for his recent children’s novel, “High-Skies Adventures of Blue Jay the Pirate,” will talk about his work and career at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Room 104 of the Olin Arts Center, Bates College, 75 Russell St.

In his talk, titled “Scratched and Hatched: Inventing Stories Through Drawing,” he will discuss his influences, how he develops ideas and how his work has evolved.

Presented by the art and visual culture department, the talk is open to the public free. For more information, call 207-786-8212.

Nash, of Peaks Island, is founder and head of the illustration department at Maine College of Art and a well-known children’s book illustrator, author, graphic designer and artist.

Church plans supper family fest

AUBURN — A bean supper will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Auburn United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave. The event is open to all, and the menu consists of baked beans, casseroles, hot dogs, coleslaw, bread, beverages and pie. The church will host a Family Festival from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.  It will be a multi-generational afternoon with activities planned for all ages. For more information call the church at 782-3972

Cribbage League winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Oct. 17 were: first, Pauline Quimby and Lorraine Fillion; second, Gene Brown and Don Maillette; third, Jeannine Labbe and Linda Dostie Scott; fourth, Linda Williams and Moe Fournier; fifth, Vicki Thayer Adams.
