1958 – 2013

PORTLAND — Mary B. Tencza, 55, of Norway, died unexpectedly at St. Joseph’s Manor on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

She was born to Audrey and Walter Tencza on Feb. 17, 1958, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mary lived at Rustfield Village for many years. She took pride in helping others and volunteered at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center for many years. She could be seen going to the store, shoveling snow or doing almost anything people would ask her to do, because she had a very kind heart for everyone around her.

She was devoted to a variety of animal organizations, as well as the local rescue shelter. She loved many pets through the years and loved her cat, Minnie. Mary so deeply loved and cherished her younger brother, Joseph. He was always first in her thoughts and she always did what she could to help make his life happy. Mary loved Joe, with all her heart.

She also loved to sing and had a wonderful voice. She loved music of all kinds and was a huge fan of Cher and her music; she loved Whoopi Goldberg and her movies, too. Mary had a larger-than-life personality and loved a good laugh; her infectious laugh will never be forgotten.

She loved to give gifts (and get them, too) and always chose special occasion cards to give with great care, thought and love. Christmas dinner will never be the same without her.

Mary is survived by her brother, Joseph Tencza, of Mechanic Falls; her aunt, Marie Reese and uncle, Harry Reese, of Otisfield; cousins, Harry and Rosemary Reese of Harrison, Timothy Reese of Norway and Elaine Reese of South Paris; second cousins, Joanna and Vanessa Reese and TJ and Robert Reese; and her dear friends, Paula Turcotte, Bonnie Chillie and Anne Sprague.
