NEW SHARON — A local teenager is recovering Monday at a Lewiston hospital from serious injuries he received Saturday when his truck left Industry Road and hit a tree head-on.

Matthew Couillard, 18, of New Sharon was driving his 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck toward New Sharon at about 5:12 a.m. It appears he fell asleep and the truck went off the road to the right and struck a tree, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Matthew Brann said in a release on Saturday.

Couillard was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington by a NorthStar EMS ambulance with a possible broken leg and head injury, he said. He was later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center.

A CMMC representative said he was listed in good condition on Monday.

Brann was assisted at the scene by New Sharon Fire Department and NorthStar.
