RUMFORD — An East Machias man was arrested early Monday morning after his vehicle went off Route 232 and smashed into a tree, Rumford police Sgt. Doug Maifeld said.

Michael Ford, 30, of was charged with operating under the influence, operating after suspension, driving with an expired license and criminal mischief, Maifeld said.

Ford and his two passengers were taken to Rumford Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, he said.

Ford was driving a 2007 Ford sedan south at about 12:40 a.m. when the accident occurred. Cpl. Lawrence Winson and patrolman Brad Gallant of the Rumford Police Department responded to the scene, according to Maifeld.

The car was demolished, he said.

“You can see an imprint of the tree that he hit on the side of the car, and the sunroof collapsed into the car,” Maifeld said.
