1910 – 2013

AUBURN — Antoinette Marie Gagne, 103, of 44 Sargent St., Lewiston, died Thursday, Nov. 7.

Born on April 30, 1910, in St. Damien, Bellechase, Province de Quebec, she was the daughter of Zenon Metivier and Felixine Lessard Metivier. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. She married Dominique Gagne on May 1, 1943, at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Rumford; they were married 59 years and lived on Pleasant Street in Lewiston, until his death in July 2002.

Antoinette enjoyed sewing, quilting and knitting for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to knitting for family, Antoinette also knitted hundreds of mittens through the years for the local elementary schools, as well as newborn baby hats for St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining in her home. She enjoyed the French-Franco sing-a-longs each month. She was a member of St. Croix Church for 70 years. She was also a member of the Jacques-Cartier Snowshoe Club since 1945.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Rene and his wife, Mary Chambers, of Celeste, Texas and Marcel and his wife, Louise Metayer, of Lewiston; one daughter, Rachelle and her husband, Aurele Cyr, of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Daniel Gagne of Texas, David Gagne and his wife, Maria, of California, Lucille Gagne Clark of Sabattus, Laurie Gagne of Lewiston, Ruby Cyr Duguay and her husband, Arthur, of Brunswick and Jason Cyr and his wife, Jennifer Lalemand, of Auburn; 13 great-grandchildren, Daniell, Jennifer and Stephen Gagne of Georgia, Matthew and Bella Gagne, including step-great-grandchildren, Lucas and Gabriella of California, Jacob and Sarah Clark of Sabattus, Alexandrah Gagne-Robertson of Lewiston, Autumn and Erin Duguay of Brunswick and Dominik Cyr of Auburn; and sister-in-law, Delima Gagne of Auburn.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Gertrude Cote, Alvenise Viger and Marie Gagne; four brothers, Joseph, Philip, Alcide and Maurice Metivier; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Cyr Gagne; great-grandson, Derek Bartlett; and many nieces and nephews.
