CASCO — A Casco man is facing a drunken driving charge after the vehicle he was driving struck an oak tree head-on early Friday morning, police said.

Nathan Locke, 19, was traveling along Quaker Ridge Road shortly before 1 a.m. when he lost control on a curve and struck the tree, Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

As firefighters arrived, Nathan’s father, Patrick, the owner of the vehicle, was attempting to remove the damaged Volvo by using another vehicle, according to Goulet.

The elder Locke told police that he was the operator of the vehicle, Goulet said, and by the time officers had arrived, Locke and his passenger, Nichole Mulrenin, 16, had been driven to Bridgton Hospital by Mulrenin’s mother.

Police were able to determine Nathan Locke was indeed the driver and he was arrested and charged with OUI and brought to the Cumberland County Jail, Goulet said. Locke had been treated for chest pains at the hospital and Mulrenin for a broken arm. Both occupants were wearing seat belts.

Locke was also charged with operating without a license.
