1924 – 2013

TOGUS — Jean Paul “Donald” Guerin, 89, a resident of Augusta, formerly of Jay, died Friday, Nov. 8, at the hospice unit of Maine Veterans Hospital in Togus.

He was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Livermore Falls, the son of Odilon and Delia (Emond) Guerin. He attended school in Livermore Falls. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre, having earned two Purple Hearts. He took great pride in being an American. On June 7, 1948, he married Pauline Dubord, she passed away May 24, 1998. On August 24, 2002, he married Nancy Fletcher Crook of Augusta. He worked in the Beater Room for International Paper at the Otis Mill in Jay, retiring in 1986. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and currently a member of St. Mary’s Church of St. Michael’s Catholic Parish in Augusta. Don was also a member of the International Paper Quarter Century Club and the Frank L. Mitchell, VFW Post 3335 in Jay. Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling, trips to the coast, going out to eat and watching the Red Sox. In his 80’s Don decided to take up golf and spent many mornings on the course with brother-in-law, Clifford, who was in his 90’s. Don took great pride in his family and it was not unusual to hear him say, “I’ve had a wonderful life!”

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Crook Guerin, of Augusta; his daughters, Patricia Nadeau and her husband, Michael, of Wayne and Pamela Bergeron and her husband, Terry, of Jay; four grandchildren, Kimberly Bernier and her husband, Shawn, of Wayne, Rebecca Murphy and her husband, Chris, of Kennebunk, Chris Nadeau of Topsham, and Amy McDonough and her husband, Mick, of Braintree, Mass.; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley and Cassie Bernier, Jack, Emily and Katherine McDonough, Jenna and Leah Murphy and Tyler Nadeau; his stepdaughters, Candy Walters and her husband, Gary, of Centennial, Colo. and Andrea Auwarter and her husband, John, of Millerton, Pa.; step-grandson, Justin Auwarter; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Pauline; brothers, Norman and Robert Guerin; and his sister, Doria Leclerc.
