1941 – 2013
LEWISTON — Carolyn F. Bennett, 72, of Rumford, died Friday, Nov. 8, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston.
She was born in Rumford on Oct. 8, 1941, the daughter of Samuel and Estella (Walker) Swett. She graduated from Deering High School in Portland, Class of 1959.
Carolyn worked for the City of Portland in the police department as a personnel assistant for 20 years and later for several nonprofit organizations for the developmentally disabled for six years and then for SAD 52 in Turner, Leeds and Greene for several years, until her retirement in 2002.
Carolyn was married in Conway, N.H., on Sept. 13, 1959, to Arthur F. Bennett, who died in Rumford on Jan. 21, 2007.
Carolyn was a board member of Camp Fire Boys and Girls and member of the Greater Portland Municipal Credit Union, Rumford Public Library Growth Committee and Searchlight Club. She was a volunteer at the Portland Museum of Art, Portland Players Theater and Rumford Hospital, as well as serving as a a volunteer docent at Victorian Mansion in Portland. Carolyn was active as a Portland history docent affiliated with landmarks and was a cellist with the Portland Symphony Orchestra.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Bolden of Old Orchard and Whitney Bennett Brichetto and husband, David J. Sr.; granddaughters, Taylor Bolden of Rumford and Renee M. Brichetto of New Gloucester; grandson, David J. Brichetto Jr.; sisters, Marilyn Lightman and husband, Murray, of Taunton, Mass., Bette Swett-Thibeault and companion, Peter Thibeault, of Lewiston, and Janice Guimont and husband, Brian, of Gray; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband.
