1949 – 2013
WINDHAM — Margaret Jane O’Sullivan died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 11, at her home in Windham.
Margaret “Margo” was born in Lewiston on April 24, 1949, to John P. and Margaret D. (Egan) O’Sullivan. As a young girl, Margo moved to Falmouth Foreside. She grew up in the heart of a loving family, with sports, pets, visits to relatives and worship at Holy Martyrs Parish forming the fabric of her days.
Margo was a beautiful person, with an outgoing personality and an engaging sense of humor that drew friends to her. Growing up in a household with three brothers, Margo loved sports. She played golf for many years, receiving lessons from her father and from the professional golfers at the Riverside Municipal Golf Course in Portland. Her YWCA teammates prized her unique style that brought victory at the bowling lanes each week. She attended many games of the Portland Sea Dogs and the Portland Pirates, and cheered for the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics on television.
Margo enjoyed travel. She vacationed for several winters with her parents on Marco Island, Fla., as well as spending a special summer together in Ireland. There also were countless trips to visit family in Massachusetts. A fan of country music, Margo traveled to Nashville, Tenn., to hear her favorites in-person.
In her early teenage years, Margo attended the Pride School for the developmentally disabled. She then trained and worked at Goodwill Industries in Portland and was employed at various businesses, including the Lincoln Insurance Company and Goodwill’s Community Skills Programs in South Portland. Throughout her life, Goodwill Industries of Northern New England served as a teacher and employer and finally, after the death of her parents, a home and caring second family.
She is survived by her brothers, John P. O’Sullivan Jr. of Falmouth, Dr. Philip T. O’Sullivan and his wife, Jane, of Norwell, Mass., and Michael A. O’Sullivan and his wife, Jan, of Bethesda, Md.; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Margo was predeceased by her parents.
