OTISFIELD — The Board of Selectmen has decided to continue to keep the Community Hall on Route 121 closed between Dec. 1 and Feb. 15 unless an emergency arises.

“Then we’d do what we need to do,” Chairman Hal Ferguson said.

The building has been used for town meetings, dances and private events.

The issue was discussed at last week’s selectmen meeting when the board was asked whether the hall should be available for anything other than emergencies during that time and what cost would be incurred by anyone who wanted to use it.

Ferguson said Wednesday that the heat is shut off and the building is winterized, but reopens during the town’s winter carnival.

In 2010, voters agreed to continue to maintain the Community Hall after a study revealed fire and electrical code violations, lack of water and problems in the kitchen area. Those issues were resolved.

Last week, the board also discussed instituting extra fees to pay for cleanup costs that are sometimes incurred by people who rent the hall and do not clean up afterward.
