NEW LONDON, N.H. — Irene A. (Burt) Barry, 90, of Franklin Street, Rumford, died Monday, Nov. 18, at the New London Hospital in New London, N.H.
She was born on July 23, 1923, the daughter of Charles Burt and Doris (Whitehouse) Burt Churchill. Irene was a native and lifelong resident of her beloved Rumford. She worked as a waitress and cook in various Rumford diners to support her family. She retired from Bass Shoes in 1988.
Her favorite activity was Bingo. Irene’s children always came first in her life and she was a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by five children, Robert (Billie) Barry of Georges Mills, N.H., Joan Gauvin of Newport, N.H., Rodney (Shirley) Barry of Newport, N.H., Bruce (Anna) Barry of Rumford, and Charles Allen (Penny) Barry of Newbury, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Charles Burt and Doris Swett of Rumford. She also had many nephews and nieces who will feel a void in their lives, especially Richard Shelkis, his wife, Jesse, and their son, Ricky, who gave her constant care and attention.
She was predeceased by her parents; an infant son, George; a granddaughter, Lisa Gauvin; a great-great-grandson, Lucas Boyd; and siblings, Edith West and Mavis Tyler.
