OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Maine game wardens are investigating a gunshot that allegedly hit an Old Orchard Beach residence Wednesday morning, and say charges against two local hunters may be forthcoming.
Doug Rafferty, spokesman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, told the Bangor Daily News on Wednesday afternoon a stray shotgun slug hit a home at 71 Cascade Road around 7:45 a.m.
Rafferty said the shot narrowly missed a dog and struck the home about five feet to the left of the back door.
“We do have two hunters that we believe are connected with this and we’re questioning them,” said Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service. “We’re continuing to investigate this and charges are likely.”
Both Rafferty and MacDonald said authorities are not naming the two hunters unless or until charges are filed.
MacDonald said nobody was injured as a result of the shooting.
“At this point, it’s probably the most serious incident we’ve had involving hunters [this year],” Rafferty added. “One [hunter] was coming down Cascade Road, another coming up Ross Road. They saw a buck and a doe and took a couple shots.”
Old Orchard Beach police are assisting in the investigation.
