WALDOBORO — A man has been arrested and charged with arson in connection with a fire on Union Road in Waldoboro last week.

Eric Buckley, 34, who resided at the mobile home, was taken into custody upon being released from VA Togus Hospital in Augusta on Friday, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

Buckley was the only person home at the time of the fire on Nov. 14, McCausland said. The mobile home was destroyed.

The state fire marshal’s office had determined on Thursday that the fire had been intentionally set.

Buckley apparently set fire to items in a bathtub, and the fire quickly spread, McCausland said. A Waldoboro firefighter was treated at a local hospital for heat exhaustion.

A 14-year-old neighbor helped Buckley escape the home, then called 911, the state police spokesman said.

Buckley is being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
