PORTLAND — Doug Rafferty, a former long-time news anchor for WGME-TV who suffered an on-air stroke in 2006, has reached a settlement in his lawsuit against the station and its parent company.
Rafferty, now spokesman for the state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, alleged that WGME and Sinclair Broadcast Group of Maryland removed him from his anchor job and cut his pay after the stroke.
The Portland Press Herald reports a federal trial was scheduled for 2014, but a settlement was reached Friday. The terms are not recorded. Rafferty and WGME General Manager Tom Humpage declined to comment.
Rafferty’s lawyer said he recovered from his stroke by 2007 and was fully capable of serving as an anchor.
Rafferty did some broadcasts and other assignments. He left WGME last year.
