1926 – 2013
RUMFORD — Alvan D. Larsen, 87, of High Street in Dixfield, went to be with his Lord on Monday, Nov. 25, at the Rumford Community Home.
He was born in Boston, Mass., on July 14, 1926, a son of George and Margaret (MacCauley) Larson, and attended Boston schools, graduating from Boston University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and was pictured on a National Geographic cover as one of four who patrolled the Vienna neutral zone after the war.
Al was a well-known insurance agent for State Farm for many years. He was a member of SCORE and of the Mexico First Baptist Church, where he held many positions, including deacon, missionary leader, Sunday school teacher, and Boy Stockade and Battalion. He was also a member of the Rumford Baptist Church and served as a Boy Scout leader.
Al was married in Mexico in 1959 to Esther Jamison, who survives of Dixfield. Other survivors include his sons, James D. Larsen of Houston, Texas, George D. Larsen and wife, Laurie Ann, of Dixfield and John E. Larsen of Houston, Texas; and his grandchildren, Patrick and Jacob.
