1923 – 2013
AUBURN — Dorothy G. Hooper, 90, of Auburn, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Bolster Heights.
She was born in Winthrop on Sept. 7, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Evelyn Godfrey. She grew up in the Winthrop area and attended local schools, graduating from Winthrop High School. In February 1948, she married Eugene “Bill” Hooper and they started a family together.
Dorothy was a highly involved member of the Eastern Star, and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed being a bookkeeper and loved and chased after her grandchildren for many years. She had a passion for racing sled dogs all across New England. She will be remembered for never missing a Leavitt football game and cherished her trips to Rangeley.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Hooper, of Turner; her three children, Jeff Hooper and his wife, Cheryl, of Turner, Jennifer Stevens and her husband, Walter, of Greene and Jean Gray and her husband, Randy, of Turner. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Chris Gray, Wisha-Marie Potts, Bridget Thompson and Brian Hooper; her great-grandchildren, Ashton, Braydon, Snoopy, Ashley, Aidden, Emma and Jack; two sisters, Jackie Beal and Nancy Roscoe, both of Florida; as well as a special family friend, Sam Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Krista Hooper.
