AUBURN — Three weeks after gunfire rattled a Newbury Street neighborhood, police arrested a man and woman who live in the house that was shot.
Maine Drug Enforcement agents Wednesday night searched a first floor apartment at 14 Newbury St. where they say they found a significant amount of crack cocaine and other evidence of drug trafficking.
Arrested were Angel Nguyen, 36, and Charles Richardson, 31, who had been living together at that address. Each was charged with trafficking in scheduled drugs and taken to the Androscoggin County Jail.
Richardson was being held on $20,000 cash bail. Bail for Nguyen was set at $10,000.
The MDEA, with the assistance of Auburn police and the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, searched the apartment after a month-long investigation into the drive-by shooting that left the front of the building riddled with bullet holes.
Although investigators did not say whether the shooting was directly related to drug dealing, the MDEA has been investigating since gunfire erupted there in the early evening hours of Nov. 6.
No one was hurt in the shooting, although police said at least a dozen shots were fired.
According to MDEA Supervisor Matt Cashman, the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are likely.
