DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the Nov. 20 query for candles with long-lasting scents, I have been making candles for 20-plus years and have been told that my candles are some of the best out there. People always comment on their burn quality and their strong scents. I make a balsam-scented candle that has been popular year after year, and my sister always says it’s her favorite.

If your reader is interested in looking at my candles, they can reach me at cndlemkr@roadrunner.com or call me at 783-0338. Thank you. — Karen Brookhouse, cndlemkr@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There is a wonderful company right here in Maine that makes all kinds of balsam products; however, I do not know about candles: Maine Balsam Fir, P.O. Box 9, West Paris, ME 04289, 800-5-Balsam, www.mainebalsam.com (they offer a catalog). Wendy and Jack Newmeyer are the co-founders.

I have been to this company with my mom, and the smells are absolutely abundant! Perhaps No Name can find something here for his holidays. Thank you for all you do. — Charlotte Blier, Auburn, cblier1@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a “fresh balsam” candle on my desk that makes you think that you are in the woods with fir trees all around you. It is from Bath and Body Works put out by Slakin & Co (bathandbodyworks.com) and has a price tag of $20 on it. I did not pay that, and I am pretty sure you will find it at the store.

It has three wicks, the smell is very strong, and it says it will burn for 30 to 45 hours. Hope this helps. I really enjoy your column. — Pam, pthoits@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The best candles are from Kringle Candle Co. of Bernardston, Mass. Son of former Yankee Candle owner Mike Kitteredge is the originator of Kringle. The balsam fir candles are highly scented and my winter favorite. Most are white and free of dyes. I now use them exclusively. A beautiful place to visit. DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m a local distributor for Scent Sations, home of Mia Bella products, including 26-, 16- and 9-ounce jar candles, votives and Mia Melts, which are burned in a scent simmer pot. I have a strong pine scent as well as the balsam fir scent No Name is looking for. You can order from my website, bethgamache.scent-team.com, or directly from me by email or phone. — Beth Gamache, bgamscents@gmail.com, 207-353-8361

DEAR SUN SPOTS: About the candles that are Balsam-fir-scented, I have one that is called mistletoe green from Yankee Candle. It makes the whole house smell great. Hope this helps. — Brenda, brenda.parent@maine.edu

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I finally found a balsam candle with REAL fragrance that lasts the whole burning! It is the Mainstays AromaBeads, on sale at Walmart for $5. The candle says it’s pine scent, but it smells like the classic balsam. It’s with the holiday decorations/candles. Mine is the large one in a glass container with a black metal cover. Thought I’d share. Thanks! — Deb C. via email
