WILTON — The public is invited to an open and free presentation by students in the University of Maine, Farmington non-majors honors science class. The program will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Wilson Lake Inn and is sponsored by Friends of Wilson Lake and Wilton Conservation Commission. Light refreshments will be provided.
The students with their professor, Dan Buckley, have been conducting research on lakes as dynamic systems. Their investigations on and in Wilson Lake have focused on various aspects of water quality and how it relates to conditions along the shoreline and within the watershed, as well as to the changing regional and global environment. Lakes in Maine are significant drivers of local and state economies. Recent declines in their water quality can have significant economic and ecological repercussions.
The presentation on the students’ findings and discussion of how individual and coordinated efforts can help maintain the water quality of our lakes and ponds will highlight the history of changing conditions in Wilson Lake and what folks are doing to help maintain water quality.
