Opportunity Enterprises holiday fair
AUBURN — A holiday fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7, at Opportunity Enterprises, 400 Center St.
The fair will have baked goods, hats and mittens, decorations, ornaments, raffle baskets and more.
All crafts and baked goods are handmade by individuals with developmental disabilities served by OEI.
Admission is free.
Proceeds will benefit the recreation fund.

Advocates plan holiday festival
AUBURN — Advocates for Children will host the Holiday Festival for Children from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Dominic Academy, 121 Gracelawn Ave.
Juggler Will Silvers will perform at 9:30 a.m., concert by Rick Charette will be at 10:15 a.m., Wildlife Critters with Spark’s Ark at 11:30 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., Pelletier’s Karate demo will be at 12:30 p.m.
There will also be kids’ crafts, bounce house, book sale, Mason’s Child ID Program, cake walk, food, visit with Santa, Ella’s Chocolate sale and fundraiser and a raffle tree.
Advance tickets are $5 for children and $7 for adults. Tickets are available at Advocates for Children, 124 Canal St., Lewiston, Shaw’s Supermarkets, 600 Center St., Auburn, and 27 East Ave., Lewiston.
Tickets at the door are $6 for children and $9 for adults.
Two performances of Christmas concert
AUBURN — The annual Christmas Concert at the Auburn United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at the 439 Park Avenue church. Performances will be at 2 and 7 p.m.
The concert features a variety of Christmas music with soloists and various ensembles. This year there will be cookies and punch after the 2 p.m. performance, and pies and coffee after the 7 p.m. concert.
There is no charge for the concert. It is recommended to arrive early to get a good seat. Contact the church office at 782-3972 for additional information.
Nezinscot Valley Holiday Fair
BUCKFIELD — The Nezinscot Valley Holiday Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Buckfield High School, 160 Morrill St.
There will be 100 local crafter and vendor booths.
Photos with Santa begin at 10 a.m.
Lunch items for sale include hot dogs, corn chowder, Italian sandwiches and fried dough.
Live musical performances will be held throughout the day.
The fair is hosted by the Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters.
Local history event at Cumston
MONMOUTH — Monmouth Museum and Friends of Cumston Library are sponsoring an event for anyone interested in local history from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Cumston Hall.
At 10 a.m., a talk, “Gathering Local History,” will be given by the folks who worked to collect the stories in the museum’s three recently published local Monmouth histories. Larry Buggia, Judy Johnson and Freeman Lloyd McCabe will explain the process of pulling together the stories of local families. Participate in a discussion by the editors to see how the 1,000-plus pages came to publication.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. books will be available for purchase, along with other museum publications of local history. The three new books are “Recalling Monmouth’s Greatest Turf and Farm Era,” “Recalling Monmouth’s Greatest Turf and Farm Era (Volume II)” and “Monmouth: Center, North, East and South: A small Town with a Fascinating Past.”
Poland Church plans Christmas fair
POLAND — Poland Community Church will hold its annual Christmas fair from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at 1212 Main St., Route 26.
There will be a silent auction, holiday gifts, bakery, twice nice, wreaths, raffles and a luncheon.
Dempsey workshop on ACA impact
LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free workshop for anyone interested in learning more about the Affordable Care Act and what it means for cancer patients. The workshop will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.
Hilary Schneider of the American Cancer Society will discuss what the Affordable Care Act means, how it helps provide more Mainers with access to cancer prevention, screenings, affordable health insurance and access to lifesaving treatment including clinical trials.

Coats for Kids at Mechanics banks
LEWISTON—For the third consecutive year, Mechanics Savings Bank joins the Maine Bankers Association in collecting Coats for Kids during the month of December. Participating banks across the state will act as a drop-off location for children’s coats. The public may donate coats through the drop box at branch locations in Auburn, Lewiston, Brunswick and Windham. The coats will be sent to Pratt Abbott on Dec. 30, cleaned and then distributed by the Salvation Army.
Last year, participating Maine banks collected 1,163 coats in their branch lobbies during the month of December, plus a number of new vests, scarves, snow pants, mittens and hats.
Senior Citizens Cribbage League
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Nov. 27 were: first, Anita Maheux and Roger Charpentier; second, Cindy Boyd and Ed Hinkley; third, George Bussiere and Don Haley; fourth, Mickie Farnum and Gerry Therrien; fifth, Stan Tetenman and Roger Labbe.

Workshop on independent publishing
TURNER — Independent Publishing for Maine Writers is a workshop being held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, by MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education. Fee is $20.
Recent innovations in printing technology have created a boom in self-publishing. Good books that don’t meet traditional publishers’ criteria can now be affordably printed and marketed.
AMS student council plans spaghetti dinner
AUBURN — Auburn Middle School’s Student Counsel will hold a spaghetti dinner to support families in need from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec 13. There will be a 50/50 raffle and themed basket raffles.
