FARMINGTON — The Police Department has been awarded $10,000 from the Maine Department of Highway Safety’s Drive Sober, Maine program for the second year in a row.
The funds are used to increase enforcement of traffic safety laws, impaired driving incidences and impaired driving related injuries, crashes and fatalities, said Sgt. Michael Adcock, who applied for the grant.
The enforcement begins this month and runs through September 2014, he said in a news release. The money pays for additional patrols and possible two or three checkpoints.
“The Farmington Police Department is extremely proactive in traffic enforcement and is excited to continue with their enforcement efforts as this allows an officer to concentrate on problem areas,” Adcock said in the release. “The Farmington Police have zero tolerance when it comes to operating under the influence.”
