LEWISTON — The Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn will host a community celebration from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Lewiston Public Library.
The event, which is free, is an opportunity to learn more about the work of the council, meet with its members, share ideas and ask questions about food access in the Twin Cities.
Light refreshments will be served.
If planning to attend, RSVP to [email protected] or call 513-3848.
The Good Food Council started as a project of St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, prompted by the findings of a community food assessment organized to identify food access assets and challenges in Lewiston-Auburn.
The Good Food Council was established to create and support improvements in the local food system through education, advocacy and community-based decision-making.
There are about 200 similar food councils across North America working to change food policy and support coordination of food, nutrition and agricultural initiatives.
Some members of the Good Food Council of L-A are Western Maine Community Action, St. Mary’s Health System, Farmers’ Gate Market in Wales, Austin Associates, Healthy Androscoggin, Bates College, Good Shepherd Food-Bank, Coastal Enterprises, Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments and Auburn Councilor Belinda Gerry.
