SOUTH CARTHAGE — New England Celtic Arts will present the Franklin County Fiddlers, past and present, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center at 7p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21. A pot luck supper will precede the concert starting at 5 p.m.

The concert will be a musical variety show. Phill McIntyre noticed a need for the Franklin County Fiddlers to have an outlet to continue to make music, even after graduation, and he suggested this show back in 2011. Proceeds have gone to worthy causes in the past.

Steve Muise, Franklin County Fiddlers director, has suggested that since this concert includes both current and past FCF members, that any possible proceeds will not be used directly by the fiddlers.

The first year, the audience helped raise enough funds to help install an interactive whiteboard and sound system for Mt. Blue Middle School’s orchestra room. Now, all orchestra students in grades 7 and 8 can benefit from that technology.

In 2012, the Fiddlers were shocked and saddened by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, so the proceeds from that year’s concert, plus a donation from the Franklin County Fiddlers totaling $2,000 was sent directly to the music teachers at Sandy Hook elementary schools so the funds could help the community heal through music.

Over the past two years, the concerts have been full of joy and surprises, and the same is expected this year. The current crop of Franklin County Fiddlers has been busy entertaining audiences around Franklin County this fall, having played in the Crossroads Celtic Festival, a Quilters convention, a benefit for students traveling to Nicaragua, a Knight’s of Columbus dinner, a Veterans Day ceremony, the dedication of the newly renovated Mt. Blue campus, a contradance, the Rotary’s Festival of Trees, and more.

Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive. Ticket price is $15 or by donation at the door. For reservations, call 207-562-4445.
