LEWISTON — Members of the Lewiston High School Music Association, which supports the band, vocal and strings music programs at LHS, voted recently to donate $500 to the LHS STEP program.
The association made the donation not only to support the wonderful work of the STEP program but in hopes of encouraging other school groups to donate as well. “Even though our organization’s primary focus is to support music programs at Lewiston High, we also consider ourselves part of the Lewiston High community. Any student at any time can find him or herself in a situation of not having a permanent place to call home and we wanted to do whatever we could to help,” said Sharon Handy, who presented the check on behalf of the LHSMA. “We’re happy to do whatever we can to make students’ lives easier.”
The LHSMA raises the majority of its funds through a weekly bingo held Saturday evenings at the Pleasant Street Bingo Hall on Pleasant Street.
The LHSMA officers are Gary Lessard, president; Michelle Angers, vice president; Karen Choate, treasurer; Beverly MacNeill, recording secretary; and Jim Handy, corresponding secretary.
