Nearly 100 couples danced old 1913 out with Ye Olde Tyme Comfort at Ridgley hall, Main street, Lewiston, Wednesday evening, altho some who had their toes stepped on, so numerous were the dancers, that their idea of comfort would hardly have corresponded with the impression of Ye Olde Tymes. The affair was given by the office girls of the Lunn & Sweet shoe factory, Auburn, this being the third annual event, climaxing all others by a social and financial success. The full Ariel orchestra furnished music for the long order of dancing. The pretty gowns of the women made the scene an attractive one for the many spectators who occupied the gallery and the various styles of Terpsichorean art were so numerous that an astronomer of considerable experience could have properly numbered each chapter of the so-called code.

“It was quite a surprise,” said Mrs. Norma Gammon of Turner this morning, as she lovingly cradled newborn daughter, Elaine Norma, Lewiston-Auburn’s first of the year, in her arms. Mrs. Gammon presented the Twin Cities with its first baby of the new year at 1:14 this morning. The four other Gammon children, Theodore Stanley. Jr., Wayne Wallace, Norman Arthur and Larry Scott, were at the Gammon home, probably sound asleep when their little sister arrived.

Many people came to the historic church on Center Minot Hill Sunday evening for the celebration of the church’s 11th annual candlelight service led by the Rev. Robert Crist of the Hebron Community Baptist Church. The service, which is always held on the Sunday evening following Christmas, has become a tradition as the “Old Church On the Hill.” A brass quintet comprised of John Knox, John Hyman, Margaret Berry, Ralph Sylvester and Duncan Webster, all of Auburn, greeted the crowd.
