LEWISTON — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Jean Paul R. Mathieu was celebrated by the Rev. Marc Caron on Monday, Dec. 23, at Holy Cross Church of the Prince of Peace Parish, following prayers at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home.

During Mass, Jean Paul’s granddaughter, Sarah Legare, presented a New Testament reading. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by his grandchildren, Nathan Marcoux and Audrey Machowski.

Following Mass, a reception of fellowship was held at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. Pallbearers were Nicholas, Isaac and Jared Legare, Nathan Marcoux and Jim Machowski.

Interment was held a week later on Monday, Dec. 30, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Augusta, with Deacon Denis Mailhot reciting committal prayers, concluding with the U.S. Army Honor Detail playing taps and presenting our country’s flag to Jean Paul’s wife, Alma, in recognition of her husband’s service during World War II.
