PORTLAND — The University of Southern Maine Art Department and Gallery will show “Transitions: USM Juried Art Alumni” from Jan. 13-March 28, at AREA Gallery, Woodbury Campus Center, 35 Bedford St.

A reception will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, with a snow date of Friday, March 28. The Best of Show award will be announced at 6 p.m.

“Transitions” includes 23 paintings, drawings and prints by seven USM Art alumni, selected by juror Virginia Sassman Rose, founder of Portland’s Rose Contemporary Fine Art Gallery. Exhibiting alumni include: Nora Tryon, Kathi Smith, Jody Desjardins, Ellen Hodgkin, Michael Connor, Lis Janes and Tyson Jacques. Admission is free and open to the public.
