PARIS — A man wanted on two warrants from area police departments was apprehended in South Carolina last week and extradited to Oxford County Jail.

Joshua Daniel Bailey, 29, was picked up at a police roadblock in Orangeburg in central South Carolina after failing to appear for a November court date in Oxford County Superior Court. 

He was arrested after police learned he had outstanding warrants in Maine. 

Bailey has a Norway address but is a South Carolina resident, according to Lt. Brian Landis of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office. Landis said Bailey lived in Norway for a short time in 2013 and has connections with friends in the area.

According to Landis, Bailey was wanted on two warrants from criminal incidents in Oxford and Norway in August 2013. 

In October, Bailey was indicted by an Oxford County grand jury on criminal operating under the influence, operating without an license and driving to endanger charges from an arrest by the Oxford Police Department.

Landis said Bailey was also charged with domestic assault and violating bail conditions by Norway Police Department. 

“He failed to appear for each case with multiple charges,” Landis said. 

Landis, along with Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Christopher Wainwright, traveled to Orangeburg between Dec. 27 and 29 to bring Bailey back to Maine.

Bailey made a court appearance via videoconference Thursday afternoon on the charges from his Oxford arrest and was given a $1,000 cash bail. As of Thursday afternoon, he remained behind bars.
