ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — John M. Hodge, 83, of Englewood, Fla., died on Jan. 1.

He was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y., and moved to Englewood, Fla., in 1992 from Freeport. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1952. He was a marine engineer with Bath Iron Works shipbuilders for 30 years before retiring in 1988. He served on a merchant marine tanker and a Navy destroyer during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Elks in Englewood, Fla., Moose Lodge in Venice, Fla. and Sahib Shrine in Sarasota, Fla.. He was an Episcopalian.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Mag) Carver Hodge; as well as various nieces, nephews and cousins.
