TOWNSHIP 2, RANGE 9 — A state trooper escaped injury Monday when his cruiser was struck by a tractor-trailer along Interstate 95 as the officer was attending to a traffic accident, according to police.
Trooper Adam Bell, 31, of Hodgdon was investigating an accident on the highway’s southbound lanes around mile marker 236 when his unoccupied cruiser was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by Heming Guo, 49, of Las Vegas, according to Maine State Police Lt. John Cote.
Bell was not injured in the accident, according to Cote, who said Guo was traveling too fast for the road conditions.
Guo was driving a 2013 Freightliner rig owned by PRIME Inc., according to Cote. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Bell had stopped at the scene of a crash where a vehicle had gone into the median, and had parked his cruiser in the breakdown lane, the lieutenant said.
Bell was approaching the crashed car when Guo lost control of his rig and struck the car before hitting Bell’s cruiser. Freezing rain falling at the time made the highway slick.
All three vehicles sustained major damage and Guo was summoned for imprudent speed, according to Cote. Trooper Tom Fiske investigated the accident.
