Free community lunches to begin
WILTON — The Wilton Ecumenical Committee will serve a free community lunch on the second Saturday of each month during the winter months, beginning on Jan. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Wilton United Methodist Church on Main Street.
The first lunch is sponsored by the Wilton Methodist Church. Later lunches are sponsored by the Dryden Baptist Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the United Church of Christ, but all will take place at the Methodist Church.
A simple lunch of homemade soup, bread and dessert will be served.
College planning workshop set
WILTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop, “Essentials of College Planning,” for adults 19 and over at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Wilton Career Center, 865 US Route 2 East.
All MEOC services are free and include GED/SAT preparation, college planning, referrals/advocacy, career advising, financial aid advising, college admissions process and application fee waivers for qualified adults.
The starting point for all participants is the Essentials of College Planning, a free interactive workshop that outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills.
The workshop lasts approximately two to three hours. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 18-800-28-3703.
Passport Dinner to visit Australia
EAST WILTON — The first Passport Dinner of 2014 will travel to Australia on Friday, Jan. 24, where it is now summer and undergoing a heat wave.
The Australian menu includes Anzac biscuits, pumpkin soup, Australian meat pie and lamington cake. Cost is $12 per person.
Reservations must be made in advance by calling 645-3676.
The after-dinner speaker will be Amy LeBlanc, who will provide a slide presentation she and her husband made to Australia.
