LEWISTON — Irene Joan Palian, 88, of 22 Deforge St., Lewiston, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Central Maine Medical Center.
Born in Morgan, Pa., on Sept. 16, 1925, she was the daughter of Walter and Josephine Orlowska Bozecka. She was educated in Pennsylvania schools and married Charles Palian in 1947. They moved several times while he served in the U.S. Navy, finally settling in Lewiston in 1964; he passed away in 1989.
A longtime member of the former St. Joseph’s Church, she belonged to Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, and was active in the Robin Dow Senior Citizens, the DAV Women’s Auxiliary and volunteered at Holy Family’s bingo.
Survivors include four sons, Dr. Charles and wife, Diane, of Lewiston, Robert and wife, Cynthia Earman, of Washington, D.C., Steven and wife, Rachel, of Greene and William and wife, Elizabeth, of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Joyce and husband, David Moores, of Turner; a brother, Alex Orlowski of Greensburg, Pa.; two foster sisters, Patricia Jaworski and Florence Gerbach, both of McKeesport, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, soon to be seven.
