INDUSTRY — A tractor-trailer loaded with 16,000 pounds of paper rolls found the ice on Grid Iron Hill too much to maneuver over Thursday morning.
Vouh Gayetaye, 33, of South Dakota, driving for ANS Express, was traveling on Route 43 shortly after 11 a.m. to return the rolls to the mill in Madison, he said at the scene.
Part way up the hill, Gayetaye tried to get traction on the ice-rutted road, he said. He tried backing up to get traction when the trailer slid sideways, blocking the road near the intersection with the New Sharon Road.
Collins Wrecker from Wilton was called to go through New Sharon to reach the other side, Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Zecher said at the scene.
Members of Industry Fire Department helped with traffic control.
A second incident involving a tractor-trailer that jackknifed further up the road in Starks in Somerset County took place earlier Thursday morning, Zecher said.
