LEWISTON — Lewiston native Gregory Beam has made his London debut as a playwright this month. His play “Keepsake” is currently running at the Old Red Lion Theatre in London. “Keepsake” tells the story of two adopted sisters in a Muslim family in Lowell, Massachusetts, who confront secrets from their past in the wake of their father’s suicide.

The play has received many 4- and 5-star reviews. The British Theatre Guide said it “marks something important in modern theatre.” Playstosee.com, a London-based reviewer, said the play “will provoke thought and debate for a good while after the dimming of the stage lights.” The publication West End Wilma praised its “beautifully sculpted script.” Time Out London, a biweekly arts magazine, called it a “smart, stylish, sharply realistic drama.”

“Keepsake” is presented by Free Trade Productions and will run through Saturday, Jan. 25.

Beam graduated from St. Dominic Regional High School and the University of Chicago. He holds a master’s degree in theater from the University of California at Irvine. He lives with his wife Kimberly in Brooklyn, NY, where he teaches.
