AUGUSTA (AP) — The chief of the Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations who just helped negotiate a new 10-year liquor distribution contract for the state says he is stepping down.
Gerry Reid confirmed to the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/K1Fhbk ) on Tuesday that he is resigning, but he did not elaborate other than to say “it’s for a good reason.”
He said he would release more information Wednesday.
His resignation follows the recent 10-year deal between the state and Pine State Trading for the state’s liquor business.
Terms of the deal with Pine Street were undisclosed but the deal is expected to generate $450 million in revenue.
Reid became the liquor and lottery chief in February 2012. He previously oversaw product development for tequila maker, Jose Cuervo International.
