PORTLAND — The board of directors of Junior Achievement of Maine has announced the appointment of Steve Mortimer as president, effective Jan. 14.

Mortimer has more than 25 years of senior executive experience in a wide range of for-profit and nonprofit organizations. During his corporate career, he was senior vice president of operations for an international insurance company, chief operating officer at a major HMO and a senior manager at Accenture.

Since 2002 he has helped more than 150 nonprofits in education, health care, social services, the arts and the environment. His areas of expertise include strategic planning, operational effectiveness, performance metrics, fundraising, organizational clarity, change management and cost optimization.

He lives in Poland Spring.
