Dempsey workshop for children

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free workshop for kids ages 6-10. “What’s In Your Bucket?” will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

This fun and interactive workshop will help kids express themselves through art, sharing and play. Presenters Kristel Samson, MSW intern, and Tookie Bright, LCSW, Youth and Family Services Coordinator, will read a story about managing the stress that cancer creates through our relationships with each other and ourselves. Parents, guardians and other adult caregivers are encouraged to attend.

‘Fighting Fatigue’ exercise workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free exercise workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Fighting Fatigue” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Cancer-related fatigue is one of the most common side effects of cancer and its treatments. Nate Littlefield, ACSM certified health fitness specialist, will teach tips and techniques for safely becoming more active, which can decrease the feeling of fatigue and help you feel energetic and stay active.

This is the third of a six-part series, “Living Well with and Beyond Cancer,” designed to help people better understand and cope with cancer’s impact on mind, body and spirit. Remaining sessions include: Self-care and Effective Communication (Feb. 6), Cancer and the Spirit (Feb. 13) and The New Normal (Feb. 20).

Sabattus Seniors to meet Feb. 6

SABATTUS — Sabattus Seniors will meet Thursday, Feb. 6, at Maxwell Gill Hall for the monthly meeting and meal.

This month’s menu will consist of meatloaf, potatoes, vegetables, bread and dessert. The meal will be followed by the meeting.

RSVP for this luncheon must be made by Feb. 1 by calling Pauline at 375 4037. This date is for both sign-ups and cancellations.

If the weather is questionable follow the school cancellations; no school, no meeting. Cancellations are also listed on TV 8 WMTW.

Jeanne’s trips for 2014 so far are the sugar party in Canada (passports needed), Atlantic City, New York, two-day trip to Rhode Island and Connecticut with show. Keep watching for new add-ons. Call Jeanne at 784 5264 or catch up with her at the meeting.
