1933 – 2014

LEWISTON — Yvette I. St. Laurent, 80, of 37 Orange St., Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, at d’Youville Pavilion.

Yvette was born in Lewiston on Nov. 16, 1933, the daughter of Alphee and Clarisse (Pomerleau) Grenier, and was educated in local schools. She worked as a fancy stitcher at Clark Shoe for many years and then ran a successful business with her husband, Dick’s Variety, for 15 years on the corner of Lisbon and Chestnut streets in Lewiston.

She enjoyed spending time with her family after retirement on Parlin Pond and her cabin in Jackman. She enjoyed many activities, especially long, scenic drives in New England that always led to fabulous dinners at restaurants along the way. An exceptional cook who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, she made a mean prime rib, but her forté was soups and chowders.

She was an avid reader of National Geographic, and also enjoyed knitting and playing card games. Her greatest enjoyment was telling stories and bragging about her twin boys, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her loving husband, Richard, of Lewiston, she is survived by her twin sons, Leon and wife, Lorie (Labbe), of Anchorage, Alaska, and Louis of Lewiston; a “daughter of choice” and close friend, Nancy Chouinard, of Lewiston; her only sibling, a brother, Alphee Grenier Jr. of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Alexa and Conner St. Laurent of Alaska, Ryan St. Laurent and wife, Laura, of California and Jill Roberts of Lewiston; three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Ava and Emma St. Laurent of California; a nephew, Richard Grenier; and two nieces, Michelle Mayberry and Maria Labonte.

She was predeceased by her parents; her son Louis’ wife, Peggy (Thibodeau) St. Laurent; and sister-in-law, Jeannine (Cailler) Grenier.

The family extends their greatest thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and d’Youville Pavilion for their support and care during Yvette’s short stay.
