RUMFORD — A jackknifed tractor-trailer and a car collided on Route 2 during a snowstorm late Sunday morning, police said.

There were no injuries.

The accident happened at 11:41 a.m. at the intersection of Route 2 and Franklin Street. A westbound 2008 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer driven by Rene Lamoureux, 58, of Sherbrooke, Quebec, slid on snow, Sgt. Doug Maifeld said in his report.

The trailer started to jackknife as Linda MacGregor, 75, of Rumford, was driving a 2003 Honda east on Route 2, he said. Trying to avoid a collision, MacGregor drove her car up onto a snowbank, but was struck by the trailer, he said. Lamoureux continued driving west, unaware of the collision, Maifeld said.

When asked for assistance by Rumford police, Oxford County Sheriff’s Capt. Christopher Wainwright stopped and held Lamoureux on Route 2 until Maifeld arrived. Maifeld said it was the right tractor-trailer truck based on witnesses statements and paint transfer.

The tractor-trailer truck had rear bumper damage; the Honda sustained rear driver’s side damage. Rumford police do not provide damage estimates.
