ALBANY, N.Y. — Constance Stephens Ham Caires, 88, of Slingerlands, N.Y., died Monday, Jan. 20.

She was born in Lewiston on March 4, 1925, to the late Jacob Barker Ham Jr. and Olive Terina Love. She was a longtime resident of Carlisle, Mass., and retired to Sedona, Ariz., and Sarasota, Fla.

A loving and devoted mother and homemaker, she participated in many community activities, including town events and scouting. She enjoyed volunteering, dog breeding, traveling, silversmithing and the visual arts.

She is survived by six children, James (Anni) Caires of Abington, Mass., Laurie Waterman of Foxboro, Mass., Nina Caires (Rich DeVries) of Coeymans Hollow, N.Y., Matthew (Karen) Caires of Chelmsford, Mass., Caroline Spangler of Mountain View, Calif., and Rebecca (Colin Catterson) Caires of Chicago, Ill. She was the grandmother of Arryn Waterman, Kate Waterman, Jake (Megan) Spangler, Nick (Monica) Spangler, Starr (Tyler) Rey, Joyah Spangler, Lindsey (Mike) Cancado and Adrienne Gagliardi; and great-grandmother of Benjamin Spangler.
