SULLIVAN — For the second time in the past six years, fire has destroyed the home of a family that lives on Quarry Road.
On Friday, multiple pets, a truck, two cars and a boat were destroyed along with the house at 67 Quarry Road, the local fire chief said. No one was home at the time, he added.
It is the second time a house has burned down at that property in the past few years, according to Chris Eklund, chief of the Sullivan Volunteer Fire Department. The two-story house and attached garage that were destroyed Friday had been built to replace the other home, he said. The property is owned by Danny Tracey, Eklund said.
Nobody was hurt in the April 2008 fire either, but a dog, two cats and a ferret died in the blaze, the Bangor Daily News reported at the time.
Eklund said the call on the latest fire came in around 10:15 a.m. Friday. He said he had not yet had a chance to talk to the homeowners to find out if they might know how it started.
Eklund said that because the residence had been built to replace another lost house in an earlier fire, he assumed it must be insured.
He estimated that approximately 35 firefighters from departments in Franklin, Gouldsboro, Hancock, Lamoine, Sorrento, Sullivan and Winter Harbor responded to help put the fire out.
