LISBON — Two weeks after naming an interim town manager, town councilors find themselves in need of naming a new one.

Council Vice Chairman Dillon Pesce said Monday that Mike Huston, who was appointed Jan. 7, has been hospitalized.

The unexpected departure of former Town Manager Steve Eldridge has been a trying time for council members and town employees, council Chairman Lisa Ward said.

Dillon said Monday that councilors want to make sure the new interim town manager will be able to bring stability to the situation.

The council voted unanimously not to renew Eldridge’s contract on Jan. 3. Eldridge, who had been with the town since 2008, left the position Jan. 6, the day his contract ended. Huston was appointed the next night during a council meeting.

Pesce said there are several candidates who are interested.

The council will meet in a workshop session at 6 p.m. Tuesday with three items on the agenda, including a presentation on an executive search proposal by Maine Municipal Association’s David Barrett. That will be followed by presentations by assessor Bill Van Tuinen and Recreation Director Mark Stevens.

Pesce said when the workshop is over, the council will open a special meeting and go into executive session to talk about the appointment of a new interim town manager.

A separation agreement signed by Eldridge on Jan. 9 and by Ward on Jan. 10, specifies that Eldridge will receive three months of salary and three months of medical coverage.
