At the Lewiston police station is a bottle which has the force guessing. They don’t know whether it is an amateur attempt at manufacturing an infernal machine or just a joke. Neither does George Whitney, Main street, Lewiston, hardware man, in the basement of whose store it was found. The bottle is of about three ounce size and is nearly filled with a black powder. It is tightly corked. Thru the stopper a fuse leads down into the powder. This bottle was found on Monday night by Mr. Whitney, behind a box in the basement of his store. The fuse has been lighted and burned partly to the bottle. It is thought it may have been extinguished when it fell off a shelf and struck the basement bottom.

Lewiston’s big revaluation job hit a snag of sorts last night as the city’s aldermen declined to vote suggested funds for the project, but the work was continuing today at city hall. Thus far, the concern hired to do the revaluation, the United Appraisal Co. of East Hartford, Conn., has been paid but $1,000 of the total price of $59,500. Whether or not the firm will get the chance to complete the job remains to be seen. Lewiston Controller Laurier T. Raymond noted that the bulk of the revaluation project is to be done this year, and the bulk of the money due the firm is also to be paid this year.

Lisbon selectmen were taken on a tour of the Farwell Mill Saturday morning for their first official look at the inside of the old textile mill since reconstruction by Merrymeeting Developers began. Converting the mill into a modern 81-unit apartment complex has been considered the cornerstone and finishing touch to the revitalization of Lisbon Village. A majority of the board indicated they were pleased to find the apartment complex nearer completion than they had expected. Most of the electrical and plumbing work has been completed and in several of the apartments inspected, kitchen cabinets, ceilings and carpeting have been installed and the walls are nearly ready for final finishing. All apartments have large windows. A trash compactor has been installed and a laundromat on the ground floor is partially completed.
