PORTLAND (AP) — A Scarborough man prosecutors say used the proceeds from his oxycodone distribution ring to finance a strip club has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Adam Goodwin was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland after pleading guilty in July to health care fraud and conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone.
Prosecutors said Goodwin and another man worked with a foot doctor to obtain phony prescriptions for 18,000 pills. The podiatrist wrote the prescriptions without any medical purpose in the names of patients he never treated in exchange for money or cocaine.
Authorities said some drug profits were used by a business group that included the 39-year-old Goodwin to finance a failed strip club in Westbrook.
The other two have already been sentenced.
