Rangeley, ME–The Rangeley Lakes Trails Center will be hosting the Maine State Snowshoe Championships on Saturday, February 8th. This race is a qualifier for the U.S. Snowshoe Championships to be held in Woodford, VT in early March. Age classes include Senior Men and Women and Junior A and B Girls and Boys. A Touring Class will shoe off following the Junior start. A fun Kids Kilometer will start off the day at 9 AM. Sponsors for the race day are Dion Snowshoes and the Alpine Shop of Rangeley.
Any age and any ability are welcome to enter the race. Fees range from $2 to $25 and there will be prizes for each age category. Course maps and all the details are available at the Trails Center’s website at xcskirangeley.com. Participants can easily register online at skireg.com. If you are interested in qualifying for the U.S. Snowshoe Championship race, you must be a member of the U.S. Snowshoe Association prior to the race. Their website is snowshoeracing.com.
The Rangeley Lakes Trails Center has increased their dedicated snowshoe trails by over forty percent in the last two years. These trails crisscross the entire trail system and offer beautiful, varied terrain for your choice of a quick workout or a day-long adventure. Enjoy spectacular views, different ecosystems, wildlife viewing, and more.
The Trails Center, located at 526 Saddleback Mountain Rd, is open 7 days a week from 9AM to 4 PM for snowshoeing and nordic skiing. Hot and cold beverages, snacks, and soup are available for sale at the yurt lodge.
