1917 – 2014

TOGUS — The Rev. Roland M. Lord, 96, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Patriot Place at Togus.

He was born in Portland on Sept. 20, 1917, the son of Wilfred and Nancy Millett Lord. He graduated from Woodstock High School and Nyack Missionary Institute in New York, and served his country in the U.S. Army.

His mission was reopening closed churches, then moving on, in Dixfield, East Dixfield, West Sumner, North Paris, Welchville, Gray, Ellsworth, West Tremont and Cherryfield. He was a member of the Rural Home Missionary Association and the American Legion, Jackson Silver Post.

He is survived by his son, Roy, of Belgrade; his sister, Hope Lamb, of Florida; three grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, on Aug. 11; a son, Dale; and a brother, Wayne.
