DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am hoping someone can help me. I have a septic system and I put stuff in it to help it. But for some reason I get this awful smell up the drains. The bathroom smells like rotten cabbage. I also put baking soda in and it helps some. Thank you. — Gail, Lisbon Falls

ANSWER: Sun Spots thinks you need a professional to diagnose the problem. It could be something as simple as your vent being clogged or the tank needing pumped out to something more serious, such as needing a new leach field.

There are numerous companies listed under “septic tanks and systems” in the yellow pages. Be sure and ask them how much they will charge to come out and take a look before you sign up.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a baptismal outfit for a baby boy size 9 to 12 months. It can be new or used, white or off-white. It doesn’t need to have any Christian symbols on it; those can be added by me.

The outfit is for early spring so it needs to be knitted or some other warm material, but if it’s just cotton, we will make do.

My work and home phone is 946-3669. Call between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or leave a detailed message. Thank you for your help. — Diane via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You have helped so many people with Sun Spots. Please let me know what stores carry wide-band knee highs. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. — I.G., Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots wishes you had specified whether you want regular socks or support stockings and how wide a band you’d prefer.

For stockings, you might try medical supply stores. Readers, do you have any suggestions?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you get the name of the lady that knits for the animal shelter? She took free yarn for making the cat beds. I have quite a bit I will give her if she still does that. — Susan, suzyt14@megalink.net

ANSWER: Sun Spots guesses you mean Germaine Nolan of Lewiston. You can call her at 777-1593. She does not have a car but will pay for postage or gas if you get the yarn to her.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a teacher in Oxford Hills. We have received a great donation of many skeins of new yarn. I am hoping that there may be some knitting needles or crochet hooks that could be donated, too. Needles in sizes 8, 9 and 13, and crochet hooks in size 8 are needed. I would love to teach the students a great life skill. Thanks. — Deb Johnson, debbie_johnson@sad17.k12.me.us, 207-595-1421

DEAR SUN SPOTS: To the person who wanted to give away Christmas cards (Jan. 23), I would love to have some for crafts that I make. Thank you. — Laurie Lambert, 207-783-8984, laurielambert14@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would be delighted to have Christmas card fronts if the person whose letter was in the Jan. 23 paper has not found another use for them. I recycle them for a variety of purposes and would be happy to share the end result with the person in question if she is interested. — Holly Cooney, windhamcrag@yahoo.com, 782-1181

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I came home from shopping at the Auburn Walmart and realized I had lost the beautiful necklace my daughter and family gave me for Christmas. Luckily, I was able to find it.

The next day Walmart called and said they found another piece of it. My husband picked it up, and when he brought it home I could see it was a whole new necklace and not mine.

It is an origami owl locket, as is mine, but some other person is missing their treasured necklace. Walmart said that no one had called for it, so I thought I would put it in Sun Spots in hopes of finding the owner.

My sister also found a watch which is a Victory Quartz. I believe it is a lady’s. I would love to see these items back with their owners. — Good Samaritan via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Please publish a different phone number for anyone interested in helping repair the sculpture of World War I Gen. John J. “Blackjack” Pershing. It should be 207-713-4505. — Jerry DerBoghosian
